Every year, your Intech review lands in your inbox or mailbox. You’ve always trusted us to read the markets, assess your investments and give you clear, considered guidance.
This year, something is different — and we think you’ll notice.
Over the past twelve months, Mark and I have been quietly rebuilding the way we analyse, rate and recommend investments. The result is a more rigorous, more consistent review process than anything We’ve used before. Not more complicated for you — quite the opposite. But significantly more thorough under the hood. You’ll also benefit from faster reports and more responsive action when markets or your circumstances change.
Here’s what changed, and why it matters.
1. The Challenge We Set Out to Solve
Wealth management has always relied on judgement. A good adviser reads the market, knows their client, and makes considered calls. That will never change — and it shouldn’t.
But judgement alone has limits. When we’re managing portfolios across dozens of clients, with hundreds of investment options available across different platforms and asset classes, We can’t hold all of that in our head at once. Small inconsistencies can creep in. A fund that performed well three years ago can stay in a portfolio longer than it should. A better option can go unnoticed.
We wanted to fix that — not by removing our own judgement from the process, but by giving it better information to work with.
2. Introducing the Intech Ratings Engine
The first piece of the puzzle is something we call the Intech Ratings Engine — a proprietary scoring system that evaluates every investment in our universe and produces a clear, objective rating.
Every fund and investment we use is scored across multiple dimensions: performance consistency, risk-adjusted returns, volatility, cost efficiency, and how it ranks against genuine peers in the same asset class and platform. The result is a five-tier rating:
- Elite — top performers with consistent risk-adjusted returns
- Superior — strong performers, well above average
- High Quality — solid, reliable investments
- Acceptable — performing adequately, monitored regularly
- Review — flagged for replacement consideration
This isn’t a black box. Every rating is traceable — we can show you exactly why a fund sits where it does. And crucially, ratings are recalculated each quarter as new data comes in, so the picture is always current.
Our aim is simple: consistent high performance and low volatility across every client portfolio.
We’ve had the opportunity to present both the Ratings Engine and the Review Engine to a range of industry professionals — including fellow advisers, fund managers, accountants and lawyers. The response has been 100% positive. Several peers have described it as among the most rigorous and transparent client review systems they’ve seen from a boutique practice.
3. The Intech Review Engine
The second piece is the Intech Review Engine — the system that translates those ratings into your personal review report.
Rather than building your review manually from scratch each cycle, the Review Engine pulls together your current holdings, assesses each one against the latest Intech ratings, identifies any positions that should be reconsidered, and generates a clear set of recommendations tailored specifically to your portfolio.
What you receive is a report that is both more thorough and cleaner to read than ever before. The analysis is deeper. The language is clearer. And the recommendations are directly actionable — no guesswork required on your end.
4. What This Means for You
More precise recommendations. Where we suggest a change, we can tell you exactly why — what the fund’s current rating is, what it’s being replaced with, and what that means for your overall portfolio.
Faster reports and more responsive action. Because much of the analysis is now systematic, your review report will be with you sooner — and we can act more quickly when markets or your circumstances change.
Consistency you can trust. Every portfolio is assessed against the same objective criteria. There’s no drift, no legacy positions quietly being overlooked.
More time on what matters. With the mechanics handled, we can spend more time on the things that genuinely require human judgement — your personal circumstances, your goals, and the nuances of your situation.
The same trusted relationship. None of this changes the fact that we review every recommendation personally before it reaches you. The technology supports our judgement — it doesn’t replace it.
5. A Note on Timing
You’ll notice this year’s review reports reference data as at 30 June 2026. Our ratings are built on the most recent available performance data, updated each quarter. As markets move, the ratings move with them — which means your next review will always reflect a fresh, current picture.
6. We’d Love Your Feedback
Client response to the new review format has been overwhelmingly positive. If you have questions about how your portfolio is being assessed, what a particular recommendation means, or simply want to talk through where things stand — please reach out. We’re always happy to chat.
